Admissions Process

  1. Submission of an application for Seward County Community College. (Only if you are not already attending SCCC)
  2. Submission of official high school transcript (or GED scores) and official transcripts for college level coursework must be submitted to    the Register's Office. (Only if you are not already attending SCCC)
  3. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  4. Submission of proof of CPR certification at health care provider level.
  5. Obtain three references (See guidelines in application packet)
  6. Schedule an interview with the Financial Aid Director regarding financial aid.
  7. Pre-requisites are Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Microbiology.
  8. Take Accuplacer entrance exam or submit your Enhanced ACT scores. (For AAS degree plan)

ACT scores in English, Reading, and Math, or ASSET/Compass scores in Writing and Reading, and Accuplacer scores given by the college must be on file.
Minimum score requirements (for AAS Degree plan):
Math:  Accuplacer 30/ 20 ACT
Reading: 39 ASSET/ 75 Compass/17 ACT
Writing: 41 ASSET/ 53 Compass/ 17 ACT

If the applicant has completed college-level English composition and math courses with grades of "C" or higher, the ASSET/Compass/Accuplacer requirement will be waived.

Any applicant needing accommodation to take the ASSET/Compass/Accuplacer must contact: Melissa Hilditch, SCCC Testing Center Coordinator, 620-417-1042.

9.       Once Application packet is completed surgical technology staff will schedule an interview.

10.   Applicants will be rank ordered based up on the total points received. Applicants are notified by mail of acceptance into the program.

English Language Proficiency Policy

A requirement for admission to the Surgical Technology program at Seward County Community College is reasonable proficiency in written and spoken English. Not only is adequate proficiency necessary to benefit from instruction, clear oral and written communication is a safety issue in the clinical setting.

The test used to measure English proficiency and required minimum scores identified by the Kansas State Board of Nursing are:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) = 490
Test of Spoken English (TSE) = 220 (or 45 on the revised scoring scale)

Applicants to the Surgical Technology program for whom English is a second language should contact the Kansas State Board of Nursing (913-296-4929) for additional information.

The person(s) responsible for the implementation of this policy is/are the applicant and the program coordinator. The policy will be implemented when the individual for whom English is not the primary language makes such a decision.
